Due to Covid-19, it changes our normal norm. I have completed my Bachelor’s Degree in January 2020 and my Graduation ceremony was postponed to May of 2021. However, my university, the Univerisity of Malaya (UM) still officially declared our graduation date as 🎓17 October 2020. The first thing I thought of after knowing the graduation date was paying back my debt to PTPTN. Since I know that First Class Students are still able to apply for PTPTN waive through the online system. Therefore, I made some research about that and compiled a list of steps for my junior & friends for future references.

For your information, I prepared this guideline at end of the year 2020 and now I finally found a more suitable platform to share it with you. The sharing includes:

  1. Detailed step by step guide to apply for PTPTN first-class loan waiver.
➡️ How to get the list of documents needed?
➡️ How to prepare the list of documents needed?
➡️ How to check your application status?
➡️ How to pay back your remaining debt?
➡️ How to calculate the Takaful (insurance) that we need to pay back?
➡️ How to request a refund for the extra payback?
  2. Sharing from me and my friends regarding the documents verification.
  3. Sharing from my friends regarding how to you waive the cancelled PTPTN loan after receiving another scholarship.

The steps are as follows (Remember to read through all the parts before you start preparing your documents).

📎 NOTES:

(Updated on 13 October 2021)

The below guide is just a reference for you all based on my experience in Dec of 2020. As I get a lot of feedback and noticed that PTPTN keep revising the requirements of application and everything I should say it based on you luck. If you are kind and willing to share with me more latest details, you could private message me or comments at below and share with the readers about your experience. Thanks for your time. Good Luck, Stay Safe & Cheers ☺️

PART I: GET THE LIST OF DOCUMENTS NEEDED

  1. Get ready your No. Pinjaman
➡️ You may refer back to your PTPTN loan contract
➡️ You may refer back by login to your Online account
➡️ You may call PTPTN direct phone line (Phone number is available at the website at Part I Step 2)
  2. Login to Pemohonan Pengecualian Bayaran Balik Pinjaman Ijazah Sarjana Muda Kelas Pertama / Setaraf website using your NRIC number and No. Pinjaman
  3. Fill up your and your parents’ details carefully.
📎 NOTE: Especially the total salary amount of your family including yourself. If you accidentally filled the amount that exceeds the M40 range (Refer to the second link at Reference part). They might straight away block you from the next step but I believe you may still call the service line to clarify your mistake when filling the salary if you unintentionally did that.
  4. After filling in the details, you will see a list of documents they need you to upload.
📎 NOTE: This list of items may be different from others as they will refer back to your university type (Public / Private University), your parents working status, your family background etc.
  5. I will suggest you all screenshot on the list of documents needed and download all the sample document provided (at ℹ️ info icon).
Reasons: You will need to repeat PART I Step 3 & 4 again to look at these documents needed once you close the application website.

📌Extra Information For PART I:

  • For UM Student, I believe there isn’t have “First Class” written on your scroll. If you can’t find the “First Class” word you will need to request First Class Letter from UM Exam Section. (I will explain this in the PART II sections, just bear with me).
  • I will share the list of documents needed for my case to give you some reference (Again this list may be different from yours):
    1. Scroll
    2. Academic Transcript
    3. First Class Letter
    4. Completion Letter
    5. Pay Slip
    6. Father’s Self Employed Surat Akuan
    7. Father’s 2019 LHDN statement
    8. Father’s KWSP Details Statement
    9. Mother’s not working Surat Akuan
    10. Mother’s KWSP Details Statement
  • 📎 NOTE:
➡️ Documents No 1 & 2 can only be verified by Exam Section.
➡️ Others Documents (excluding Document 6 & 9), you may ask favour from EXCO, Government Servant (DG41 and above / Kumpulan A), Government School’s Principal etc. (You may refer to the instruction given by PTPTN)
  • 👬 👭Sharing from my friends:
➡️ I have a friend that brave enough to request verification for Document(No. 3-10 except No 6 & 9) from the head of police.
➡️ I have a friend from UPM (University Putra Malaysia) who only verified Document 5 and just scanned the other original documents with colour.
➡️ I have a friend from UM who scanned the original Academic Transcript with colour got rejected and need to submit the verified copy of the Academic Transcript.
➡️ I have a friend that request verification from Advocate & Solicitors and got rejected because PTPTN only accepted verification from a government servant.
➡️ Yup. Depends on LUCK 🍀 . You may try your luck 😂.

PART II: PREPARE THE LIST OF DOCUMENTS NEEDED

Basically, this part might be more relevant for UM students but if you from another university, you may read through to have some brief idea.

  1. First, request a “First Class Confirmation Letter” from UM Exam Section.
➡️ You may request from Academic Administration and Service Centre(AASC) via email which is written on this website.
  2. Request a Completion Letter from AASC / Your Faculty’s Assistant Registrar
📎 NOTE: You may not find any “Completion Date” written in the letter but only Senate Date. From my experience, UM might not have the terms of “completion date” but I believe the completion date is somehow the same as the Senate date.
  3. Request verification of your copy of scroll and academic transcript from AASC.
  4. Prepare Surat Akuan for your parents. If any.
➡️ You may download and type your Surat Akuan (Borang Am 80) on your own so that they will charge less than the usual price. In my case, they charged RM4 for verified a pre-fill document.
➡️ Bring your Borang Am 80 and get verification from Pesuruhjaya Sumpah (Commissioner For Oaths) nearby your house.
  5. Request verification for your remaining documents (Documents No 3-10 except Documents No 6 & 9 in PART I). In my case, I asked favour from EXCO.

After preparing these documents, you can now upload these documents to the website stated in PART I Step 1 and submit your application. The process of your application might just take a few days (3 working days during my time). I also have some friends that take a few months to get response and feedback from them. Again, need to depend on your luck.

PART III: CHECK YOUR APPLICATION STATUS

What I heard from my friends if any documents are missing or not complete. You will receive the email from PTPTN within a few working days/weeks that note down what you have to take note of and reapply the application. If you didn’t receive an email from them in a few working days/weeks you may go to your application website PART I Step 2 to view your application status.

If successful, Congratulation! 🎉🥳 However, there are several steps you need to complete before you celebrate.
📎 NOTE: The letter issued will be posted to your registered address later on. To save the PDF version of the letter, you need to use the Mozilla Firefox browser. They did not support this feature in others browser. 😂

  • 👬 👭Sharing from my friends:
For those who received other scholarship or loan from different organisations during the first semester of the second year, you should have cancelled your PTPTN loan on that semester after receiving the offer letter. However, if PTPTN had already released the loan of that semester to you, only the loans for the first year are applicable to waive.
  • The example scenario is as below
First-year (first semester) = PTPTN [APPLICABLE]
First-year (second semester) = PTPTN [APPLICABLE]
Second-year (first semester) = PTPTN & JPA [NON - APPLICABLE]
The rest of the year = JPA

PART IV: PAYBACK YOUR REMAINING DEBT

  1. Login to PTPTN i-online account.
  2. Click “PENYATA BAKI TERPERINCI”.
  3. Select the year drop-down list to the current year.
  4. Look for the final debt you need to pay back. (To understand the calculation, please refer to EXTRA INFO I)
Question 1: Why I still need to pay back my debt after I got waive for First Class?
Reasons: The debts are actually the TAKAFUL (insurance) that payout from your account monthly since day one your loan has been approved while only the loans will be waived excluding takaful.
Question 2: Why the insurance amount payout in the first year of your loan is different from the latest insurance amount?
Reasons: It is because at first, the loan release to your bank account is lesser. Over time, the accumulation amount that PTPTN release to you increase, the insurance fees to assurance definitely will increase as well.
  5. Payback your remaining debt.
📎 NOTE: The default payback amount is the original amount they borrowed for your TAKAFUL. You should change the default amount to the TAKAFUL amount that you has been used.
  6. After paying the debt. Check the statement and make sure the “BAKI KESERULURHAN PINJAMAN” is RM0. Then you are done. Hooray!
  7. However, if you see bracketed amount under “BAKI KESERULURHAN PINJAMAN” row, that means you have paid excessively to PTPTN. (To request a refund, please refer to EXTRA INFO II)

The image below is the screenshot of the statement after I paid my remaining debts. There are some written explanations regarding the statement based on my knowledge and understanding. If you find anything wrong, please feel free to correct me in the comment section. Thanks. 😄

📌 EXTRA INFO I: CALCULATE THE TAKAFUL AMOUNT THAT YOU NEED TO PAYBACK

  1. Login to PTPTN i-online account.
  2. Click “PENYATA BAKI TERPERINCI”.
  3. Select the year to the first year when this loan is approved. (eg. 2016)
  4. Example: Refer to 2016 PTPTN Account Statement Snapshot at below.
The allocation for the Takaful insurance will be the amount in “BAKI (RM)” column. In my case, it was 243.26. (Let us give it a nickname as “Amount 1”)
  5. Select the year to the current year when this waiving is approved. (eg.2020)
  6. Example: Refer to 2020 PTPTN Account Statement Snapshot at below.
The remaining allocation for the Takaful insurance will be the amount in “BAKI (RM)” column. In my case, it was 204.25. (Let us give it a nickname as “Amount 2”)
  7. Therefore, the total used takaful amount will be:
    Amount 1 - Amount 2 = 243.26 - 204.25 = 39.01

📌 EXTRA INFO II: REQUEST REFUND (IF YOU PAID EXCESSIVELY)

How do you know you have paid excessively to PTPTN? You may look into your account statement. If you realize you have a bracketed amount under “Baki Keseluruhan Pinjaman” (eg. “(10.21)”), that means you have paid excessively to PTPTN.

  1. Go to PTPTN Semakan Lebihan Bayaran Balik Pinjaman website.
  2. Key in your NRIC No.
The system will automatically check for any excessive payment from your account. If you are able to see the excessive payment from PTPTN i-online account but the website in (EXTRA INFO II Step 1) display that you do not have any excessive payment, you might need to wait for a few days and recheck again.
  3. If the system verifies that you have paid an excessive amount, you will see a “MOHON” button.
  4. Click on the “MOHON” button and fill in your personal details such as email, mobile phone number, refund method, account details and submit your application form.
  • 👬 👭Sharing from my friends:
➡️ One of my friends said, PTPTN refunded him within 3 working days.
